Jack Roop and wife Vivian started Jack Roop Ltd. on King Street in Truro on November of 1954. The couple  worked effortlessly through the years as Vivian maintained a job at Sears Department Store while helping her husband achieve success in her spare time. In the late 60’s their oldest son Randy returned from a position with Maritime tel and tel to join the company.

During the weekdays Randy helped build a rural route throughout Central and Northern Nova Scotia building a strong clientele consisting mostly of   door to door orders for work attire and household items. In 1979 Roop’s Cleaners Ltd. was incorporated by Randy following the death of his father. Randy and his wife Betty worked 14 hour days as they continued to build their customer service rapport. Eventually Betty left her full time job as registered nurse to help Randy build the family business.

In October of 1992 the couple purchased Nelson’s Cleaners on Waddell Street in Truro. The purchase of Nelsons enabled Roop’s to enter into the industrial segment of the cleaning business as the major focus was on coverall and uniform rentals. Over the past two decades Roop’s Cleaners has built a mat rental segment and linen service to compliment the uniform rentals which provides service to many commercial outlets across the province. In 2009 sons Andrew and Jack assumed full control of day to day operations. The Roops’ continue to operate the business with their mission on providing the same customer service that proceeded them for 5 decades.
